Alexander Volkanovski Endorses Aljamain Sterling for Featherweight Title Opportunity

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has weighed in on the division's current title landscape following his successful defense against Movsar Evloev at UFC 333. Despite the emergence of several contenders at 145 pounds, Volkanovski expressed support for former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling as a worthy challenger for his next title defense.

Speaking on the state of the division, Volkanovski noted that Sterling is in a strong position to challenge for the belt. While Volkanovski maintains long-term interest in a potential retirement bout against Justin Gaethje, he continues to evaluate the current contenders within his weight class. Volkanovski’s assessment comes on the heels of his performance at UFC 333, where he handed Evloev the first professional loss of his career via technical knockout.

Sterling, who recently moved up from bantamweight, has been evaluating his path to contention as he settles into the featherweight division. Volkanovski’s public endorsement adds significant weight to the narrative surrounding the top of the featherweight rankings, positioning Sterling as a frontrunner over other surging prospects currently climbing the ladder. The champion emphasized that while he is focused on his own career trajectory, he recognizes the merit in Sterling’s current standing among the elite featherweights.
