Ali Abdelaziz Addresses Ilia Topuria's Role in Potential Justin Gaethje Matchup

Ali Abdelaziz, manager for lightweight contender Justin Gaethje, has pushed back against the notion that UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria holds significant influence over future matchmaking decisions. In recent remarks regarding a potential pairing between Topuria and Gaethje, Abdelaziz emphasized that fighters do not dictate the terms of their opposition or the scheduling of bouts within the promotion.

Abdelaziz noted that Topuria 'doesn't call the shots' when it comes to organizing matchups, suggesting that the power to determine the path of a fight rests with the organization rather than the athletes themselves. The commentary comes amid ongoing discussions regarding the lightweight division's title picture and Gaethje’s next steps following recent developments in the weight class.

While speculation continues to swirl regarding a potential move for Topuria or a specific high-profile clash for Gaethje, Abdelaziz’s comments serve to clarify his position that the UFC maintains final authority over booking procedures regardless of public posturing from individual champions or contenders.
