Carlos Prates has labeled Islam Makhachev a 'coward' after a potential title fight fell through, resulting in Prates being scheduled for an interim title bout against Michael Morales at UFC 336.

Carlos Prates has publicly criticized UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev following the announcement that he will instead face Michael Morales for the interim welterweight title at UFC 336 on January 30. Prates, who was previously in discussions with the promotion for a title clash against Makhachev in Toronto, expressed his frustration regarding the champion's decision to withdraw from the proposed matchup. Speaking to MMA Fighting, Prates characterized Makhachev as a 'coward' and claimed that he intends to eventually face and retire the champion. The fallout stems from the UFC's decision to implement an interim belt for the card after Makhachev reportedly informed the promotion that he would not be available for the original booking. Prates remains focused on his new assignment against Morales as the promotion moves forward with the interim championship fight at UFC 336.
