Coach Stays Silent on Strickland vs. Chimaev Sparring Claims
What really happened between Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev inside the Xtreme Couture gym?
According to head coach Eric Nicksick — that’s not for the public to know.
“What Happens in the Gym Stays in the Gym”
Tension between Strickland (30-7) and middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev (15-0) has been building.
Strickland has recently criticized Chimaev for inactivity while pushing for a title opportunity. After scoring a knockout win over Anthony Hernandez at UFC Houston, Strickland renewed his call for a championship fight.
But the rivalry goes deeper.
Chimaev claims Strickland has been frustrated ever since being submitted during past training sessions at Xtreme Couture. Strickland, on the other hand, says the submission happened during situational grappling and insists he got the better of Chimaev overall — even claiming he made the champion leave the gym.
Both fighters have pointed to Eric Nicksick as someone who knows the truth.
The coach, however, isn’t taking sides publicly.
Nicksick maintains that sparring stories should remain private and refuses to confirm or deny either version of events.
Title Implications
With Strickland coming off a statement knockout and Chimaev holding the belt at 15-0, the storyline is building naturally:
Former champion seeking redemption
Undefeated champion defending dominance
Real gym history adding fuel to the rivalry
Whether the UFC books the fight or not, the narrative is already strong.
