Dana White Open to Potential Alexander Volkanovski vs. Justin Gaethje Superfight
UFC CEO Dana White expressed interest in a potential superfight between Alexander Volkanovski and Justin Gaethje after the featherweight champion pitched the matchup.
UFC CEO Dana White has indicated he is open to the possibility of a superfight between UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and lightweight titleholder Justin Gaethje. The prospect of the matchup arose after Volkanovski proposed the bout earlier this month as a potential path to achieving double-champion status.
Volkanovski, who successfully defended his featherweight crown at UFC 333, has previously challenged for the 155-pound belt on two occasions. Both of those attempts ended in defeat against Islam Makhachev. Despite those previous setbacks, White noted that the Australian champion’s willingness to test himself remains a compelling factor for the promotion.
"It's hard to say no to a guy like that," White remarked regarding the potential pairing. While no formal negotiations or dates have been finalized, the comments suggest that the UFC is willing to consider the matchup as a viable option for Volkanovski’s future career trajectory. A transition back to the lightweight division for a high-profile showdown against Gaethje would represent a significant pivot following the conclusion of Volkanovski’s recent title defense.
