Jose Aldo and Marlon Vera Battle to Draw in Quito Grappling Match
The submission-only grappling match between Jose Aldo and Marlon Vera ended in a draw after neither fighter secured a finish during their 10-minute contest in Ecuador.
MMA veterans Jose Aldo and Marlon Vera faced off in a submission-only grappling match this past Sunday at the Hype event held in Quito, Ecuador. The 10-minute contest ended in a draw, with neither athlete managing to secure a finish before the time limit expired.
The event served as a homecoming for Vera, who was competing in his native Ecuador for the first time since 2012. Throughout the match, Vera actively pursued finishes, including an aggressive attempt at a heel hook that Aldo successfully escaped. The defensive composure displayed by the former UFC champion kept him safe from Vera’s submission attacks throughout the duration of the bout.
The grappling exhibition offered fans in attendance an opportunity to see two of the sport's most prominent names engage in a technical test of skill outside of the traditional MMA ruleset. With no finish recorded by the end of the 10-minute clock, the judges deemed the performance a draw, concluding the featured showdown without a winner.
