Justin Gaethje Assesses Current Lightweight Landscape Following Victory Over Ilia Topuria

Current UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje has offered his perspective on the state of the division following his championship victory over Ilia Topuria at UFC White House earlier this year. Having secured one of the most significant upsets in the promotion's history by stopping Topuria to claim the undisputed title, Gaethje remains highly impressed by the former champion’s skill set.

Reflecting on the challenges Topuria presents to other contenders, Gaethje suggested that any athlete scheduled to face the Georgian-Spanish fighter is facing a difficult path. In his view, whoever is next in line for a matchup with Topuria is likely going to have a rigorous fight on their hands.

Beyond his assessment of the top of the division, Gaethje expressed interest in a potential future matchup with Paddy Pimblett. Gaethje noted that he believes a fight against Pimblett would be a great addition to the division's schedule. While no official bouts have been announced for either fighter at this time, Gaethje’s comments provide insight into his views on the lightweight rankings and the caliber of talent currently competing at the top of the weight class.
