Magomed Ankalaev Insists Business With Alex Pereira Is Unfinished

By MMAReign News Desk·Oct 20, 2026 • 9:03 PM

Magomed Ankalaev says his rivalry with Alex Pereira is not settled, noting he wants another crack at the Brazilian despite Pereira’s recent move to heavyweight.

Magomed Ankalaev has expressed that his competitive history with Alex Pereira remains unresolved, despite the former light heavyweight champion’s recent move to the heavyweight division. Ankalaev, who secured the light heavyweight title by defeating Pereira at UFC 313, lost the championship in their subsequent rematch at UFC 320. Following that loss, Pereira vacated the 205-pound belt to pursue a title at 265 pounds, a campaign that ultimately proved unsuccessful after he failed to capture the heavyweight gold.

Speaking on the state of the division, Ankalaev emphasized that he does not consider his rivalry with the Brazilian striker to be over. Despite Pereira’s transition in weight classes, the current light heavyweight contender maintains that the two still have business to settle. The dynamic between the two fighters has been central to the light heavyweight landscape over the past several events, and Ankalaev’s comments suggest he is looking to rekindle the matchup if the opportunity arises.

While Pereira is currently exploring options outside of the light heavyweight division, Ankalaev’s pursuit of a definitive conclusion to their series remains a primary focus. There is currently no word on whether the UFC plans to facilitate a third bout, or if Pereira intends to return to the weight class where he previously held championship status.
