Middleweight contender Paulo Costa has disclosed that he has requested his release from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on multiple occasions. Most recently, the Brazilian fighter expressed frustration after the UFC declined his offer to step in as a replacement for UFC 332, which takes place on October 3, 2026. The card, which required adjustments following an injury to flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, opted for a different path regarding its vacant flyweight title bout. Costa suggested that his desire to stay active was overlooked by the organization when they turned down his offer to fill the vacancy.

Costa noted that he currently has only one fight remaining on his existing UFC contract.
