Petr Yan Eyes Featherweight Move Following Potential Trilogy Bout

By MMAReign News Desk·Oct 9, 2026 • 1:03 PM

Bantamweight champion Petr Yan has expressed interest in moving to the featherweight division, provided he defeats Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 333, though he ruled out fighting friend Alexander Volkanovski.

Current bantamweight champion Petr Yan has indicated an interest in eventually moving up to the featherweight division, though he has placed a clear restriction on who he would face in that weight class. In a recent interview with Full Violence, Yan stated that while he is open to exploring the 145-pound division, he remains loyal to his friend and current featherweight standout Alexander Volkanovski, noting he would not pursue a fight against him. Yan is currently preparing for his upcoming trilogy bout against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 333, where the pair will look to settle their 1-1 series tie. The bantamweight titleholder suggested that his future trajectory is largely dependent on the outcome of the Dvalishvili contest. Should he successfully defend his bantamweight crown, a move to featherweight serves as one of several potential career paths he is considering. Currently, Yan remains focused on his upcoming UFC 333 assignment as he navigates his options at the top of the 135-pound weight class.
