Rafael dos Anjos Expresses Interest in Conor McGregor Matchup
Rafael dos Anjos is open to fighting Conor McGregor, but stated he will not wait on the sidelines for the Irishman as Michael Chandler did.
Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos has expressed renewed interest in a potential clash with Conor McGregor, citing their history as an unfinished chapter. The two were originally scheduled to face off years ago, but the bout never materialized. Recent developments, including McGregor’s return at UFC 329, have brought the possibility of a fight back into the conversation for dos Anjos.
However, dos Anjos made it clear that he is not willing to wait indefinitely for the matchup. Drawing a contrast to the approach taken by Michael Chandler, who waited nearly two years for a potential fight with the Irishman, dos Anjos emphasized that he intends to remain active in the sport. The Brazilian veteran noted that while he is open to the idea, he will not put his own career progression on hold to sit on the sidelines.
McGregor’s most recent return to the Octagon at UFC 329 this past July ended prematurely. The former two-division champion suffered a knee injury just over a minute into his contest against Max Holloway, which resulted in an abrupt end to the fight. With McGregor currently sidelined due to the injury sustained in that bout, the timeline for his return remains uncertain. For now, dos Anjos remains focused on his own path within the UFC, keeping his options open rather than committing to a lengthy wait for a high-profile showdown that may not come to fruition.
