Sean O’Malley Plans to Renegotiate UFC Contract
Sean O’Malley isn’t waiting for his deal to run out.
The former bantamweight champion recently revealed that he has two fights remaining on his current UFC contract — and he intends to renegotiate before fulfilling it.
According to O’Malley, the UFC prefers fighters not to “fight out” their contracts, since that opens the door to potential outside offers. But while leverage may technically increase near free agency, “Suga” says he isn’t looking elsewhere.
“Ideally, I’ll Renegotiate”
Speaking on his YouTube channel, O’Malley explained his mindset:
“I have two fights left on my deal, so ideally I’ll probably go renegotiate. The UFC really doesn’t like people fighting their contract out. That’s when you can start getting offers from other people. But where else would I even want to go?”
O’Malley expects discussions to begin when he travels to Las Vegas next month. And given his recent win, he believes a pay increase is justified.
“Technically, it should be bigger than the last contract anyway — especially because I’m coming off a win.”
Career Snapshot
O’Malley captured the bantamweight title in 2023 by defeating Aljamain Sterling. He defended it once before losing the belt to Merab Dvalishvili the following year.
He later failed to reclaim the title in their rematch, but recently bounced back with a unanimous decision victory over Song Yadong at UFC 324.
At 19-3, O’Malley remains one of the UFC’s most marketable stars — and a key name in the bantamweight title picture.
