Sean O'Malley Questions Petr Yan’s Interest in Potential Rematch

By MMAReign News Desk·Oct 26, 2026 • 12:04 PM

Sean O'Malley has expressed doubts regarding whether Petr Yan is genuinely interested in a rematch, even as reports suggest the fight is being targeted by the UFC.

Following the conclusion of UFC 333, Sean O'Malley has publicly questioned whether bantamweight champion Petr Yan actually desires a rematch between the two. Speaking in a recent interview, O'Malley expressed skepticism regarding Yan's willingness to step into the cage against him once more, despite reports suggesting a fight between the two is nearing completion.

Petr Yan is coming off a successful weekend at UFC 333, where he defeated Merab Dvalishvili via a five-round decision to settle their trilogy series at 2-1. While the victory solidified Yan's standing as the champion, O'Malley remains unconvinced that the Russian standout views a bout with him as an ideal path forward.

"I don’t think he’d pick me," O'Malley stated, suggesting that the champion might prefer alternative matchups. O'Malley has been vocal about his desire to face Yan for some time, yet this latest commentary highlights the persistent uncertainty surrounding the matchmaking process at the top of the bantamweight division. Despite the speculation from both parties, no official bout agreement has been finalized by the promotion for a title defense.
